Georgia Studies - Mrs. Martinez
Unit 2
Essential Question: Did the American Revolution allow for a government that protects ALL of its citizens?
This unit is about the American Revolution, what led up to it and what the country got out of it. The Americans were able to get freedom from England and therefore started making their own government.
Some of this information, especially from the first notes, should be review from prior years' education. A lot of this is going to about the Stamp Act, the Boston Tea Party and the Quartering Act where the colonists felt disrespected by the British and no longer wanted to be under their control.
A unit preview was utilized to show students what information they will be using in this unit. If you do not already, you should have a caption, title or #hashtag for the photo.
Students will then watch the video on the 'Video' page. Write 3 facts, then watch the video again and write another 3 facts. Then, answer the two questions at the bottom of the paper to be turned in.
Students are learning about the "Road to the Revolution". What things made the people living in America want to get away from England and King George III?
There were several items that went into the Declaration of Independence. Here are the big points of the Declaration that declared freedom from England.
The start of the country was with the Articles of Confederation. The country was run by a weak central government because of the situation the colonies had just come out of with the King of England. They people of the new United States of America did not want to allow a leader to take over and take advantage.
During this unit, because of the changes to the US becoming its own country outside of Great Britain, we also talk about the foundations of the US and Georgia's state government.
